Watch Films HereThe Rider
00:02:49 [In English]
Dir. Caitlin-Marie Miner Ong – United States

Nominated For >> Best Animated Film

Synposis: A loosely autobiographical animated short, “The Rider” is based off of my own experience learning to surf in NYC, proving that the ocean can bring us together with nature even in the most surprising of places.

The majority of the film is animated frame-by-frame, and the film’s score is inspired by Duke Ellington’s “Take the A Train.”

The short centers around a character who discovers surfing while on the subway and, after a few mishaps, rides their first wave.

No better expression to describe the trip of the free surfer Pedro Booman, a deep admirer of Indonesia and its infinite perfect barrels .
After 3 years of impediments and restrictions during the pandemic, Pedro had the opportunity to finally return to Indonesias and stay for more than 60 days in one of the best resorts in northern Mentawais, located right in the middle of the region’s more than 20 perfect waves.
Pedro has found many lonely tubes, and others with few lucky surfers such as João and Kailani Jabour, Sam Pitter, Max Minchalewski and even Kelly Slater’s phenomenon in the largest Nokandui of the year.
An adventure complete with amazing surf days, but also with challenges and tension.”
